New Year’s Commitments Part 6: Reduce Stress

    The holidays are over and it’s time to get back to the daily grind. It’s only been a couple weeks but maybe you are already feeling a little overwhelmed. According the American Psychological Association, 54 percent of Americans are concerned about the level of stress in their everyday lives ( For many of you, a good way to start your new year would be to simply to commit to reducing the amount of stress in your day to day. WebMD notes that “too much stress is bad for your physical and mental health” so to combat this problem they have provided us some simple and practical ways to reduce our stress levels ( All it takes is setting aside a few minutes for relaxation techniques.

    1. Mediation: Choose a repetitive activity and focus your mind as you do it
    2. Picture Yourself in a Relaxing Environment
    3. Breathe Deeply: Inhale and exhale 10 times
    4. Look Around You: Stop multitasking and focus on your surroundings
    5. Drink Hot Tea
    6. Show Some Love: Cuddle with a pet, hug a friend or family member
    7. Try Self-Massage
    8. Take a Time-Out: Find a quiet place and put the stressful situation on hold for a moment
    9. Listen to Classical Music
    10. Think Positive
